Leader Dogs for the Blind was founded in 1939 by a group of Michigan Lions. Their goal was to train dogs to lead the blind and to provide facilities and means whereby trained dogs could be matched to people who are blind. The training facility, canine development center and executive offices are located in Rochester, Michigan. Since the beginning the Lions have acted as the backbone of Leader Dog. Lions Clubs throughout the world have continued to support Leader Dog and its clients financially, brought thousands of people who needed assistance through Leader Dog’s doors, and have continued to serve on the Board of Trustees.

Leader Dogs for the Blind is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower people who are blind or visually impaired with lifelong skills for safe and independent daily travel.
